In this concluding post, we will be going deep on the visual effects powering the 13 listening rooms in the gallery. There are two basic building blocks for all of the effects: textures, constructed with Unity's Shader Graphs, and objects, which are all simple primitives animated through scripts.

In the second part of our series, we take a closer look at the toolchain and code that supports the audio-reactive features of the gallery. Audiobook is an inherently multi-sensory experience: music and art together representing a complete work. By connecting the two using audio reactivity, we were able to utilize the strengths of digital media to create an environment that couldn’t exist elsewhere.

The spring of 2022 marked the culmination of a journey 11 years in the making when I was selected to join the first post-pandemic iteration of the Stanford Laptop Orchestra, better known as SLOrk. What followed was a whirlwind term filled with ChucK code, instrument design, concerts, and the longest development cycles west of the Mississippi.
